Michelle Moffatt: How self-catheterisation with the right product renewed my confidence

A story about finding confidence again through something I call my pink piece of magic!

Hi everyone! Michelle here, I’m a mum of four from Scotland, and I want to tell you a story. It’s about something that changed my life in a big way—and yes, it’s pink!

Let’s rewind to 2019. I was working as an intensive care nurse (a job I absolutely loved!), when something really unexpected happened. I bent down to pick up a pen, and ouch!

My back gave way.

It turned out I had a spinal cord injury, and that meant I had to learn a whole new way of doing things, including something called intermittent self-catheterisation (or ISC for short).

What is Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC)?

Okay, so ISC might sound like a big, fancy word, it’s a simple way for people like me to go to the toilet when our bodies don’t work the usual way.

Instead of having a catheter and bag all the time, ISC lets you use a special tube (called a catheter) just when you need it. I thought it sounded brilliant, freedom without the fuss!

With help from my spinal nurse, I got the hang of it pretty quickly. But even though I was doing okay, I still felt a bit nervous. What if I couldn’t find a bin? What if someone saw me? It was all a bit awkward.

Not All Catheters Are the Same

My GP suggested I look into different types of catheters. And wow, there were loads! Different shapes, sizes, and even colours. That’s when I realised finding the right one could make a huge difference.

Then came my game changing catheter. It wasn’t just easy to use, it was comfy, clever, and looked amazing. I mean, it’s pink! And not just any pink, it’s sleek, stylish, and fits right into my bag. If someone sees it, they think it’s lipstick. How cool is that?

But it’s not just about looks. It’s watertight and resealable, which means no catheter leaks, no mess, and no smell. That gave me peace of mind. I could go out and about without worrying. It felt like I’d found a little bit of magic.

My catheter of choice also has something called HydraBalance™ lubricating technology. That’s a fancy way of saying it’s super smooth and gentle. It helps the catheter glide in and out easily, which is important for me because if a catheter is causing me pain from inside, I’m unable to feel it.

It also helps protect me from catheter associated urinary tract infections (UTIs), which is a big deal when you’ve got a spinal cord injury. And because the tube is clear, I can see if anything looks unusual, like urinary sediment, which helps me stay safe.

An Intermittent Catheter Designed for Real Life

There are other things I love too.

The catheter is a bit longer, which makes it easier to hold. And the case is recyclable, which means it’s kinder to the planet.

That matters to me and my kids—we’re trying to be more eco-friendly at home.

Honestly, it’s the little things that make a big difference. Feeling confident, staying safe, and knowing I’m using something that fits my life; not just my medical needs.

A Message to Healthcare Professionals

If you’re a nurse, doctor, or anyone working in healthcare, here’s a little message from me: Please remember that catheters aren’t just medical tools. They’re part of our everyday lives. The tiniest design details, like how smooth it is or how it looks, can change how someone feels. It’s not just about function. It’s about dignity, confidence, and independence.

Infyna Chic™ isn’t just a catheter to me. It’s something that helps me live more freely, more fully, and with a little more joy. And yes—it’s pink. A pink piece of magic.
